The Key to Success

  1. Doing the right thing.
  2. Exceeding expectations at every opportunity.
  3. Spotlessly clean and well maintained hotel.
  4. Incredibly friendly employees.

These are the four key principles that the entire staff at the Lord Elgin Hotel live and work by. Under the watchful eye of the lovely Mrs. Montgomery new housekeeping staff are trained over the course of five to seven days, although she says that “you can usually tell by the second day if they are going to be a good fit for the hotel.”

In addition to regular training of how to clean and prepare the rooms for guests the housekeepers must be trained comprehensively in all aspects of safety and security. This ensures that not only are the housekeepers safe and happy but so are all of our guests.

Some of the housekeeping staff have been with the Lord Elgin for 40 plus years, and are dedicated, hardworking and incredibly friendly. They hold their work to a standard that, I would have to say, is incredibly high.  They work so well together because they are each empowered to work with the guests and to use their best judgment.

Mrs. Montgomery says, and I agree, that the key to a great team and to success is to remember that every person has a name and is not a number.
