Ottawa, ON — Bringing new culinary flair to one of Canada’s most historic hotels, Chef Brian Vallipuram will join the new Grill 41 at The Lord Elgin as Executive Chef. With a top notch pedigree, having helmed such venerable restaurants as Mark McEwen’s North 44 and his own Axcess Restaurant, Chef Vallipuram offers his own deft touch to a menu of interest to locavores featuring what he calls “grown up comfort food.”
“Chef Vallipuram brings with him an impressive list of accomplishments and a wealth of experience that we are thrilled to have at Grill 41,” said David Smythe, General Manager, Lord Elgin. “We are proud of the new space and the locally-inspired menu at the restaurant and know that Chef Vallipuram will continue to raise the standard, bringing our guests an incredible dining experience.”
Named in recognition of the year The Lord Elgin was built, Grill 41 features a Canadian-inspired menu created in collaboration with well-known Food Network star and best-selling cookbook author, Chef Michael Smith. Grill 41 is ideally situated in the heart of downtown Ottawa – directly across from Confederation Park and the National Arts Centre and just steps away from the Rideau Canal. Grill 41 is the perfect rendezvous for hotel guests and Ottawa residents alike, offering an array of fresh, sophisticated comfort food.
Celebrity Chef Michael Smith has provided the table d’hôte menu at Grill 41 with a sampling of his favourite flavours. The selection includes the Chef’s famed Chowder, with PEI mussels, lobster, scallops and whitefish, Grilled Rib Eye with rosemary mushroom gravy and Just-baked Molten Dark Chocolate Cake. A portion of the proceeds from these dishes is donated to the Ottawa Food Bank. Chef Michael Smith will visit Grill 41 on March 9, 2011 to host a culinary event.
Sri Lankan-born Chef, Brian Vallipuram began his Canadian career at Oliver’s Bistro in Toronto in 1987 followed by a position at Mark McEwan’s prestigious North 44, where he remained for 9 years first at Sous Chef and then as Executive Chef. In 1999 Chef Vallipuram ventured out on his own to open Axcess Restaurant which was recognized as one of Toronto’s top ten fine dining restaurants and won Vallipuram many Canadian Fine Food Awards. Axcess Restaurant eventually outgrew its space and moved to become 1055 Restaurant and Catering, again recognized as one of Toronto’s top fine dining restaurants.
