I cannot believe we are 10 days to 2018. The big party of 2017 is winding up next week with a big ‘Tada’ on Parliament Hill to cap off Canada’s 150th celebrations. I typically enjoy a nice quiet evening at home for New Year’s eve with my hubby and family, but for the first time in many years, I am going to don my party hat and do dinner here at the hotel (fabulous food and wine pairing was an easy draw) and then up to the Hill to take in the yea end festivities and I get to do it with great friends and family!!
What a year 2017 has been! We had just come off the high of celebrating the hotel’s 75th anniversary in 2016 and were heading into another year full of more festivities – this time for Ottawa and Canada 150. We wrapped up what was a very aggressive renovation schedule at the beginning of 2017 just in time for the party to begin, kicking off with Winterlude 2017 which was a huge success. The canal was frozen for almost exactly 21 days…just enough to cover the critical Winterlude weekends – always a huge hit!
What fun we had this year branding everything with Canada 150. Ottawa was on a high all year and the hotel had the best year ever, helped with all the 150th activities and numerous conventions booked. It was the perfect storm – a beautiful renovation, a big birthday to celebrate and a team that just seemed to be on a high all year! We capped it off winning the Star Team of the year through Stars of the City. It doesn’t get better!
As someone who started in this hotel taking reservations on little white cards over 40 years ago, I can say honestly that I am SO proud to work here today more than ever! I feel so much a part of Ottawa and this community and I love the folks I work with. This is a unique hotel with a soul that grabs you and does not let go. I am so grateful!
So here’s to 2018 and all the new adventures! Bring it on!
